Once-In-A-Lifetime Benefit Auction

All-donation National Heifer Sale scheduled for June 25 in Washington, Pennsylvania

A letter from sale chairman, Craig Rhein, and
Foundation fundraising chairman, David Spahr:

For 47 years, the National Heifer Sale has achieved two aims: showcasing the finest Jersey heifers in America, and providing financial resources for a national program encouraging young people to become tomorrow’s Jersey breeders and leaders of the American Jersey Cattle Association.

And while the 48th National Heifer Sale on June 25 will again serve these purposes, it will be unlike any of the 47 sales preceding it.

From the proceeds of each heifer, 10% will be directed to the national Jersey youth development program—as has been the case every year since 1957.

The balance will be added to the endowment of the AJCC Research Foundation, a 501(c)(3) trust that since 1967 has sponsored scientific research related to high-priority areas affecting the Jersey breed.

The 102 heifers, choices, and embryo packages selling on June 25 are being recognized as Leadership Gifts to the AJCC Research Foundation. This is a most fitting description of the motivation and generosity of their owners.

In different ways, many individuals and companies have added their support to staging this event. Many more have made gifts to the Foundation. All of these supporters, and we hope many more, will be recognized on June 25.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 for Jersey youth work and $250,000—or more—for Jersey research. The heifers being offered can certainly accomplish those ends:

  • 58 lots are ranked P9 (top 10% of breed), 17 at P8, and 12 more at P7;

  • Final Score of the dams averages 86.2%, including 23 Excellents;

  • Average of the dams’ best 305-day actual completed records (96 records): 19,990M, 899F, 700P;

  • Dams in first lactation average 20,408-929-708 projected m.e.; and

  • Average of the dams’ Yield Deviations (101 records): +2,550M, +95F, +85P.

The National Heifer Sale is destined to join the long list of worthy projects that ONLY JERSEYS have successfully pioneered, among them the two sales that inspired this year’s event: the 1944 Sale of Stars and the 1956 All-American Sale of Starlets.

These heifers are yours to own on June 25. Please bid generously, knowing that you are investing in the future of the Registered JerseyTM business.
